Knackfinder: A simpler way to audit and tidy up your apps

Hi everyone,

I recently sat down (virtually!) with our fellow community member and Knack guru, Stephen Chapman, to walk through a brilliant new tool he has built called Knack Finder.

If you’ve ever deleted a field only to realise it was tied to a dozen text formulas, or spent hours hunting for a specific email address hidden in your Tasks or Form Actions, you’re going to love this. It’s essentially a “Search & Audit” powerhouse for your Knack schema.

In this 25-minute deep dive, Stephen shows us how to:

Try Knack Finder for Free

  • Find anything instantly: Search by field ID, slug, record ID, or keyword across your entire app.

  • Identify “Orphaned” Pages: Find legacy scenes that aren’t in your page tree but are still lurking in the background.

  • Fix Broken Redirects: Quickly spot rules pointing to pages that no longer exist.

  • Clean up Code: Identify redundant JavaScript or CSS referencing missing elements.

  • Trace Emails: Find every trigger (Tasks, Actions, etc.) where a specific email address is used—a total lifesaver when employees leave a business!

Stephen has made this available for free, and it’s a fantastic example of the quality of solutions being built by the developers in this community.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Have you found any “orphaned” surprises in your apps yet?

Amazing! Another great app to help developers. Very well done Steve!

Thanks @BradStevens and @Hugo. I can appreciate that there are plenty of similar solutions floating around in the forum!

And thank you @CarlHolmes for the spotlight! It was nice chatting as always!

You are most welcome @StephenChapman - it was my pleasure to spend the time with you. I appreciate all your hard work to help others. :folded_hands:

But they all offer something slightly different, so are useful in different situations. Thanks for adding another tool to the arsenal!
