Whatsapp sendout

Hi,

has anyone used Knack to send out a Whatsapp message? We use SMS all the time, but a customer has asked if we can send out to Whatsapp as well.

Thanks,

Andrew Steele (UK based).

Hi @andrewstee38626

I’ve not used WhatsApp but just checking on my phone while out and about I see they have an integration. However, I think you have to have a business account.

Not checked Flows.

Hi Carl,

yes having a look at the api and you do need a business account. Just wondered if anyone had actually done it as yet,

Thanks for the comment, as always

I have a text formula field to use WhatsApp based on a Contact phone number.

https://wa.me/{Movil}

but did not thought about using WhatsApp as a substitute for an automatic action like Knack Email Rule, if that is what you are trying to do. Can be interesting indeed.

Although, as a difference from sms and email, the destinatary must have your phone number in his phone directory.
…but ultimately I did receive some direct WA messages from unknown individuals. so…

Thank You Michael,

will investigate further.

I set this up last week using flows. Yes it works but it’s fiddly to get it started. You do need a whatsapp business account. Which requires the business to have an “approved” Facebook page (by Meta) and that requires the business to have a website that is referenced on the Facebook page. Then each recipient has to add the company into their whatsapp contacts. But yes it does send messages.

Thanks for that, I thought it would be a “fiddly’ one, but will take a look.

Andrew Steele.

My advice is get messaging working from a phone that is logged in with your company account. Once you know the pathway is open then flows is the easy bit.

Hello! I strongly suggest you look into Twilio https://www.twilio.com/.
Dealing with WhatsApp Business API is hellish. This app streamlines the process.
