Printing from a gridview

Hi Folks

I have a gridview which shows a photo of each person being reported on (21,000).

There is no way to export this resultant report and still have the images so it could be used within a product such as MS Publisher.

So the only way I can see is to print the onscreen report.

But no matter what options I chosse or play with in the print options I only get 1 page at a time.

As you can imagine, with 2000 odd pages this is not workable.

Any ideas ??

Unfortunately, online tools like Knack don’t have reporting capabilities. (I know, I know, all the online platforms think graphs are “reports”. Don’t get me started). You could try Flows to see if you could hook up to a tool like Documint. But it’s possible even with that, the process will choke on 21,000 records. Recently I tried to do this using another tool where a report might typically be 10-50 pages including 200-800 records from 5 tables. I had to use Make to transfer the data to DocuPilot (Documint had an issue with the graphics). But Make choked after 10-minutes trying to process the data. I had to go back to a RAD solution (PHP based) to build a custom web application. And I will be using Stimulsoft for the rather complex reports.

But, there’s a lot of smart people here who may come up with a solution.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Had a sneaking suspicion it couldnt be done.

Kind of crazy when you can export the first page to a pdf but not subsequent pages without calling them up one by one.

Still think Knack leaves the other so called online databases for dead in so many ways.Cannot believe the companies that push what is intrinsically a spreadsheet type solution as a database.

I used to punish the company bean counters years ago for even bothering when we had a super mini computer in the backroom that was specifically fo such things.

However, I am getting old, think my use by date is starting to flash

Knack’s website now claims 15,000 customers. Not that long ago they claimed 5000 customers. If they have actually tripled the number of customers (vs. citing the number of users;), that’s an amazing accomplishment. If they invested the time to build a genuine report-writer and advertised it, they might triple their customer base again. But I think it’s like a blind-spot. They just don’t see it. I’m not picking on Knack; it’s true of all the SaaS tools out there - unfortunately.
