New: Rolling Updates Next Week

 Hello Knack Community!
Here are some details relating to my last post.

We’ll be doing a rolling deployment of the new sign-up, sign-in, and dashboard based on region.
and the plan we are going forward with is as follows:

  • Monday, June 5, at 1pm EST, we will enable the new sign-in, sign-up, and dashboard for users in our APAC (Asia/Pacific) region.
  • Wednesday, June 7 (9pm EDT), we will enable the new sign-in, sign-up, and dashboard for users in our EU region.
  • Friday, June 9 (12am EDT), we will enable the new sign-in, sign-up, and dashboard for users in our US East region.
  • Friday, June 9 (12am EDT), we will enable the new sign-in, sign-up, and dashboard for users in our US West (Gov cloud) region.

This is subject to change (very little chance of this but including as a disclaimer)
This schedule does not apply to private environments

Release FAQ’s

There will not be any downtime with these releases. If you are working in the dashboard, builder, or live app, you will not be interrupted. :dizzy:

Post-release: The next time you log into Knack by either logging in from your browser url or from www.knack.com, you will be automatically redirected to our new sign-in page.

The sign-in page will be https://dashboard.knack.com/sign-in

You will not need to do anything differently - if you generally log in, for example, by going to builder.knack.com, you will be redirected to the new page.

The url for the new dashboard is https://dashboard.knack.com/apps

I’ll be posting all new urls in the changelog as an fyi.

There are no changes to existing Builder or Live App URLS.

:sunny: What’s New:
Create New App
We want to make it easier for your to create apps and get your data in.
We’ve added an option to import from your .csv file which will drop you into the import screen.

When you create a new app, we will autogenerate the name and the url. Feel free to change it of course, but the point is to allow you to just start building quickly.
We’re now referring to Templates as Sample Apps (to differentiate from Templates in the Builder).

Account Settings Info
We’ve changed Account Name to Organization Name.

For brand-new users signing up, we’ll be autogenerating the Organization name and URL for them based on magic and email address :magic_wand:

In Account Settings: Overview
You’ll see your Gravatar or upload a personalized profile pic - here’s Ziggystar, cutest dog ever.

:ear: In about a week and a half, I’ll be posting about how you can learn about more impactful changes coming to the Knack roadmap (and why we started with the dashboard first).

Cheers!
Kara

Great news!

“We’re now referring to Templates as Sample Apps (to differentiate from Templates in the Builder).”

What are Templates in the Builder? the list, grid, etc.?

If we take WordPress as a world success and with million of users acustomed to its vocabulary, the word Template is used for the big functionalities and design of the whole website (the app). 1 Template per database.

Maybe it is the name of Templates in the builder that should be changed.

I am not sure how they call it in WP, it depends on the page editor, some call it Element.

Food for thoughts

Thanks Michael!

Here are Templates in the Builder - we also don’t think Templates is the best name here either, but it’ll be a few weeks before we update the name. Happy to hear your ideas - I’m thinking just call it what it is - Company Table, Employee Table, etc.

Tks. You’re welcome Kara

I forgot about this help for table creation. It is great. Not only it helps for recomending some fields, but each field will be already created and formated. That does accelerate a lot table creations. Editing fields is way much faster than their creation.

More frequent table sugestions could be offered: events, projects, tasks, etc.

Looks amazing!
I especially love that it groups all the shared apps together under each Builder.
It looks like it orders it by when a builder shared an app rather than by their name alphabetically though. I think it’d be preferable if they were from A-Z, but that’s just me.

Good morning

Since this update, when I access this page :

image

When I click on on app, the builder page appears for just a fraction of second, then I am redirected back to the login page.

It was not the case with the previous version. Is this normal ?

I use Opera + Windows.

Thank you

I reported this bug last week.
