I’ve tested this a few times now and it seems that the Email Editor doesn’t work properly in Safari. For example, in WYSIWYG mode, selecting text and clicking “Bold” or “Italics” does nothing. In code view, if you immediately select a Knack Merge Tag from the drop down and try to insert it, every few tries it will crash the Knack application.
Hi Kris,
I have experienced this, also with Rich Text fields (often paragraph spacing / line breaks do unpredictable things too). I always thought it was the rich text editor that Knack uses rather than the browser I use (Chrome).
I get the bulk of the content and formatting in the message / field then tweak in HTML mode to correct any niggles.
Yes it does need looking at. It has to be the most useful field that isn’t useful because it doesn’t work for users backend or frontend there are so many glitches.
Our client has asked them to be removed from the app and replaced with paragraph text which is a real shame.
Yikes, as a new customer I certainly wasn’t expecting this to be a long standing issue. Thank you for responding and letting me know.
It lead me to look through the product road map / release page and I’m certainly a little concerned about the drip feed of basic “fixes” released each month.
Is the company developing this product anymore? From an outsider’s point of view, the release log looks like they’re either heavily understaffed on developers (very concerning, may explain the careers page), or they are only doing maintenance on the existing product while they put a majority of their resources into the next generation which has no official timeline?
Knack has a very unique approach to app development which I like a lot, but I’m concerned if basic things like this have been lingering for a long time that it could be professionally inappropriate for me to recommend my clients and partners to use it.
Yes it’s quite frustrating but they are working on the app and have promised some exciting updates this year including the rich text editor. It just seems to be taking them a long time to introduce these features.
They are hopefully going to be introduced this year they have said.
Knack is working on a new version of the app. Indications are that there will be a new rich text editor as part of it. But development seems to be moving glacially, probably because the changes are so radical they are in the midst of rebuilding the basic architecture of Knack itself. Major changes are coming, but how long we will have to wait is anyone’s guess.
Hi @kris,
Thank you for your feedback and I’m glad you found our Knack community, you’ll find many good suggestions and ideas from others here.
We are working on significant updates to Knack, including a modern rich text editor that won’t be so limiting.
To address a few points:
Development Timeline: We understand that the pace may seem slow from the outside. We’re making radical changes to Knack’s (front-end) architecture, while also improving back-end architecture and performance. We’ve got a full team working diligently behind the scenes. This approach, while time-consuming, will result in a more robust, scalable, and feature-rich platform for all of our users.
Transparency: We’ve been communicating our progress in these efforts in our quarterly roadmap meetings. @kris If you are interested in seeing more regular updates on our new development efforts, I am happy to add you to our small group of “Early Access” beta users - I’ve got a few spots open right now and we’ll be opening it up more towards the end of September.
Current Version Support: While we’re excited about the future, we’re continuing to support and maintain the current version of Knack, when we reasonably can. Rebuilding/fixing the Rich Text Editor as it currently exists, is, unfortunately, not a feasible option. I wish I had a better answer for you, and I’m happy to go into more details with you on a call.
Insights from our community members are so valuable. I’m always open to hearing about specific needs, feedback, and expectations, here’s a link to my calendar.
Thanks to everyone chiming in and for being part of Knack’s journey. We’re working hard to deliver changes to Knack that will be worth the wait!
