It would appear that even when a field for telephone is set to SHORT TEXT, Edge and IE browsers will interpret the data input into them in a matching format such as (xx) xxxx-xxxx as a telephone number and turn it into a link. Doesn't happen on Chrome, Firefox or Opera.
Its quite painful to have the link if you have inline editing and accidentally click the phone number rather than commencing an edit, it asks what app to link to or if already defined, starts that application.
