Is KTL available in next gen or is the features of it now available in next gen by default? I need to recreate an app so I’m exploring what’s available now with next gen, but we have come to rely on some of the features of ktl, such linked filters and column hiding etc
I don’t believe either is a “yes” answer for now. I’m also somewhat constrained by the lack of richness in next gen compared to what KTL has done for classic.
Our main app is one that we have a fresh version for each year, so i need to set up a new one for next year and i think that this is going to prevent us moving away from classic. Its a shame as some of the new features look really useful…
One of the main reasons is, no one is willing to pay or go through the pain of switching to Next Gen. There is no clean path to switching without months/years of development. My feeling is that unless you start in next gen it’s highly unlikely that you will ever switch.
IMHO, Apart from price, which surprisingly is not the main motivator in most cases, the bottom line is that people switch to something new (regardless of what it is - a software development platform or breakfast cereal or fashion) for 3 reasons:
It makes the person feel better about themselves
It functions better
It is easier to switch than stay
Next-Gen doesn’t yet tick any of those boxes - it is still less capable and less useable than classic, and there is no cost advantage - and as Craig says there is a cost and effort dis-incentive to switch.
Focus on making one or more of those 3 items above apply, and its likely you will start to see converts. The biggest one would be 3. The switch effort is very high - especially if like many of us you have JS and CSS riddled throughout your apps, and are using KTL. Rewriting all that code and relearning all the nuances of next-gen for no practical benefit whatsoever - why would any sane person do that?
