🚀 Code Fearlessly in Knack with the KTL's Local Mode (Video Tutorial)

Hey Knack builders!

Ever wanted to add custom code to your app but worried about breaking something in production? I’ve got you covered.

I just released a new video tutorial showing how to use the KTL’s Local Mode - a game-changing feature that lets you write and test code directly from your hard drive without affecting your live app.

Why Local Mode?

  • Make instant changes without touching production
  • Test freely - your users won’t see anything until you’re ready
  • Work with your favorite editor (VS Code, Notepad++, etc.)
  • No more app copies or disrupted systems

Whether you’re a coder or just want to experiment with AI-generated code, this tutorial walks you through the complete setup. It’s easier than you think!

Enjoy,
Norm

Hi

Just want to add that it also allows multiple people to work on code on 1 app at the same time. It’s amazing. KTL’s best feature.

Actually, to my knowledge, you and Amanda have been the very first coders who started using this feature besides myself. So you guys are in a good position to confirm that, both working concurrently on a daily basis on your apps. Thanks for highlighting this

I would be curious to find out about who else has been using Local Mode? If you read this, please let us know.

We couldn’t work the way we do without it. The speed at which we can now build and work on our apps is amazing.

That sounds wonderful! How about a KTL or copy parent record and all linked child records. I need to copy a proposal with all linked children. Is this in the plans for KTL? Easy in QuickBase, that was the most common feature used by users when developing in QuickBase.
