Amortization Schedule

Has anyone successfully built an Amortization Schedule for a mortgage or car loan? If building in Excel, the primary formula would be CUMPRINC function as described below.

Much appreciated in advance if you have any experience or an approach that works for Knack for which you can share.

Thank you!

The CUMPRINC function calculates the cumulative principal amount paid over a specified range of time, defined by the start and end periods of a loan. This function is important for financial analysis, particularly in managing loans and amortization schedules. By calculating the principal portion of loan payments over specific periods, the CUMPRINC function provides useful insights into loan dynamics and helps show the trajectory of loan repayment over time. Typical use cases include evaluating the principal repayment structure of mortgages over various durations, analyzing the principal component in different loan offers, or planning financial budgets.

This is where I would start. You can find JS people who do this for a living to help. You would need a table to capture the inputs that feed the CUMPRINC, then consume these values with the Knack REST API, then process through a function like below and then write to the output field. *** Claude MCP (and others) can greatly assist in finding resolution to these types of questions. BUT, if you go that route - always duplicate your Claude APP and run Anthropic against it (the dupe) - never against your Production APP in Knack until you have tested and accept the results. Best, John S.

Something like…

CUMPRINC from Knack Fields body { font-family: -apple-system, Segoe UI, Arial, sans-serif; max-width: 640px; margin: 40px auto; color: #1f2430; } h1 { font-size: 20px; } label { display: block; margin-top: 12px; font-size: 13px; font-weight: 600; color: #444; } input, select { width: 100%; padding: 8px; margin-top: 4px; box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 14px; border: 1px solid #ccc; border-radius: 6px; } button { margin-top: 20px; padding: 10px 18px; background: #2b5fd9; color: white; border: none; border-radius: 6px; font-size: 14px; cursor: pointer; } button:hover { background: #1f47ad; } .result { margin-top: 20px; padding: 14px; background: #f4f6fb; border-radius: 8px; font-size: 15px; } .note { font-size: 12px; color: #777; margin-top: 24px; line-height: 1.5; } code { background: #eee; padding: 1px 5px; border-radius: 4px; }

CUMPRINC calculator (Excel-equivalent)

Annual interest rate, e.g. field_12 (%)

Payments per year

Total number of payments (nper), e.g. field_13

Loan amount / present value (pv), e.g. field_14

Start period

End period

Payment timing

Calculate CUMPRINC

Mapping to Knack: replace the manual inputs above with the actual field values from a Knack record — either read them from a Rich Text view via Knack.views\['view_x'\].model.attributes, or pull them from the Knack REST API (GET /v1/objects/object_x/records/record_id) and pass record.field_12, record.field_13, etc. into cumprinc() below instead of the form values. The math itself doesn't care where the numbers come from.

Thank you, sir! Amazing. I’m not sure if I can pull off myself but I greatly appreciate your share and will work to network someone to help. Much appreciated!
